Verbal authorization is acceptable, although it is always better in to have the authorization in writing. If you do take it verbally, it is best to make sure that you have a written policy that addresses the process and procedures for verbal authorization to run credit. These policies may state the originator must document the request was made verbally in your company conversation log. An email from your client is also okay, but should also have policy built around it.
Regulation allows verbal authorization from a client in order to pull a credit report. Written or email is still preferred!
